HISTORY
Curling is a sport that dates back to the 16th century, originating in Scotland, where it was played on frozen ponds and lochs. Early evidence of curling comes from paintings by Dutch artists and old stones found in Scottish ponds. The game involves sliding heavy stones on ice toward a target, with players sweeping the ice to control the stone’s speed and direction. Curling grew in popularity, spreading to Canada in the 18th century with Scottish immigrants, where it became deeply rooted in Canadian culture. Today, curling is a global sport, known for its strategy and teamwork, and has been part of the Winter Olympics since 1998.

The Campbellton Curling Club would like to acknowledge the work done by Irene Doyle to provide the history of our club.
Founded in 1890, we see here the club building which was also used as a skating rink, was situated on Union Street with the railway tracks at its back door as seen on this photo. The large building in the middle of the photo which is part of a larger one of the whole city, is dated approximatly 1898-99, after a lot of research, done by John Van Horne.
The club was destroyed by fire in February 1961 and a new one built using an airplane hanger from Halifax. This new club opened in the fall of 1961. We see the remains of the clubs' building on the left which looks like it is still smoking with possibly another building on the left on fire or remains of smoke.
