Campbellton Curling Club Ladies History

As you will probably notice, very few ladies had names of their own, they all went by Mrs. then the name of their husband.

1924
A meeting was held in the Campbellton Curling rink for the purpose of forming a Ladies Curling Club on Saturday January 19th/1924.

Mrs Shives, acting as chairman, read a letter from Mr Firth, Secretary of the Club, in which the men's club offered the ladies the use of the ice, every morning except Saturday, and two sheets every afternoon but Saturday, on payment of $3.00 from each member, with the provision that the Men's Club could use the ice, at any time they might require it. This offer the ladies accepted and it was decided to form a club known as the Ladies Curling Club and to proceed to elect officers.

 

The officers chosen by the meeting were as follows:

Secretary Treasurer: Mrs R.B. Rossborough
Mrs. Al Troy
Mrs. T. George Miles
Mrs William Mott
Mrs H. Henderson

It was decided each lady buy her broom and 10c was collected from each to pay for advertising, receipt books, and minute books.

8 teas and 7 Bonspiels, St John, Moncton, Newcastle, Bathurst and teas for Dalhousie Curlers.

It is also noted in the minutes of the Ladies' meetings that a Silver Cup for the Ladies was donated by Mr. Frank Bridges, the Principal of Andrew St. School. The McKenzie Cup was also mentionned and had been donated by George McKenzie (clothing store). A North Shore Cup was also mentionned which was also named the Dimock Trophy.
